South Orange CERT General Meeting

Minutes and Action Items

Nov. 3, 2015

Ricalton's, 19 Valley St., South Orange

Agenda and Actions

  • Review progress on 2015 SOCERT Organizational goals

We are making and seeing some progress; we continue to work on getting attendance at events and recruiting potential volunteers. Special Note: we have made adjustments to the Core Volunteer roster (those who have been trained AND have participated in a training, drill/exercise or event). We now have 17 Core Volunteers and 23 auxiliary volunteers. We encourage all volunteers to actively participate in our meetings, training, drills, and exercises. According to our charter every volunteer must participate at least once in a one of these or in an actual response in order to remain active.

  • Report on training.

The next CERT Basic training is schedule to start in January and run each Sat. from Jan. 9-30. See sign up: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f084ca5a72ca7f94-cert

  • Emergency drill- Operation Iron Horse- Medical Triage;
Conducted on Sat. Oct. 3rd and deemed a success. After Action Report and Improvement Plan is drafted and under review- due out within the next two weeks.
  • Public events

Going forward we will plan to take part in 2-3 events: Play Day, National Night Out, perhaps the SO Middle School Health Fair or other large public event.

  • CERT Basic Train-the-Trainer
This Train-the-Trainer course is intended to train other CERT volunteers to schedule, conduct, and manage the administration of the CERT Basic Course. It is currently scheduled for Sat. Nov. 7 from 10AM-2:00PM at the Baird. This invitation will be sent out to the CERT volunteer list and is not going to be listed on SignUpGenius, in order to avoid confusion with anyone signing up for the CERT Basic Course scheduled for January, 2016 (see above).
  • Transition
Andrew Boyarsky (who is taking notes) is stepping down as Chairperson as of January after three years in leading SOCERT. We need someone to take on the work of leading the organization going forward. In the meantime, he will write up a list of his responsibilties and will be delegating his responsibilities in proportions to volunteers who are willing and able to assume them. Daniel Peterson has agreed to take responsibility for outreach and public speaking on behalf of the organization (thanks Dan!). Ted Marcoux is willing to help but will need to see what he has the time to undertake.
  • Next General Volunteer Meeting- will be added to regular agenda.
